The Art of Song: Recital Series - May 2007 Concerts

This Winter/Spring season has flown by and it has been a most rewarding experience and with word from our audience this inaugural season of “The Art of Song” has not been in vain. As the month of May is quickly approaching from the horizon, we at Atelier S find ourselves in the “home stretch” with our final 3 musical outings, offering the familiar and not so familiar.
For those that are inclined to take in these 3 final concerts, Atelier S is offering a package deal to get all three concerts at a cost of $50 ($15 savings off of full ticket price – advance purchase only)

The first in these final recitals will be held Wednesday, May 2nd, featuring mezzo-soprano Martha Spence with special guest cellist Karen Aitken. Highlights of this program include excerpts of Gustav Mahler’s cycle “Des Knaben Wunderhorn”, “Élegie” of Gabriel Fauré, and the rarely performed dramatic scene for mezzo-soprano, “Cléopâtre” (La morte de Cléopâtre) by Hector Berlioz.

The second of the final three feature the soprano of Dolores Tjart on Wednesday, May 16th. Ms. Tjart is well known to Toronto audiences for her thrilling and engaging performances and this program will not disappoint. Program highlights include: “Sei Ariette” of Vincenzo Bellini, “La Bonne Chanson” of Gabriel Fauré, De Falla’s “Siete Canciones Populares Españolas” and McIntyre’s “Creek Bistro Specials”.

The season finale (Wednesday, May 30th) brings the entire roster to the stage in celebration of the Italian Bel Canto repertoire featuring arias and ensembles from such great works at Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera , Rigoletto culminating in the grand sextet from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.

All concerts are held at College St. United Church (454 College St., Toronto, ON) with a start time of 7:30pm

We truly appreciate the support we continue to receive. And, if you have yet to join us, we hope we will soon have the pleasure of seeing you in our audience.

Atelier S and its mandate:

Atelier S, is very please to announce that it has a new creative home and since September 1, 2006 all lessons, performance/master classes and student recitals are held in the sanctuary of College St. United Church. This move has opened up fantastic possibilities in support of the technical and artistic growth of the student members of Atelier S. We no longer offer just voice lessons/performance coaching, but have now created a fully structured performance program specialized for the transitioning artist who is working to bridge from the student career to the lyric profession. This new program includes a weekly lesson*, bi-weekly performance/master class series, ensemble performance (opera and concert/oratorio repertoire), solo or shared recital and preferred status in performance classes featuring guest master teachers (ie: Claudette Denys – Conservatoire de Montréal/l’Opéra de Montréal, and others TBA). Roles and solo assignments will be awarded only to members of the performance program. That said, a more relaxed program is always available for that passionate amateur who wishes to explore and enrich their technical and interpretive relationship with their music.
